MTG2 Material Thickness Gauge

With automatic transducer recognition which ensures correct probe identification even when the transducer is changed, a measurement rate of 4Hz (4 readings per second) and integral zero disc ensuring maximum accuracy of ±1%, the MTG2 is ideal for taking basic ultrasonic thickness measurements.

The MTG2 is supplied complete with 5MHz, ¼” transducer and is pre-calibrated for measuring on steel only with a thickness range of up to 500mm (20”) in Pulsed-Echo (P-E) mode.

Compatible with ElcoMaster® software, individual readings can be downloaded via USB to PC or similar device for further analysis.

MTG4 Material Thickness Gauge

With a choice of calibration options and measurement modes, the MTG4 is ideal for taking readings on a wide range of coated and uncoated materials.

As well as all the features of the MTG2, the MTG4 has two calibration options. Using an uncoated sample of test material of a known thickness, the gauge can be calibrated using 1-Point calibration. Alternatively, the user can select one of 39 pre-set materials stored within the gauge including; aluminium, steel, stainless steel, cast iron, plexiglass, PVC, polystyrene and polyurethane.

Measurement Mode

Echo-Echo ThruPaint™ (E-E) measurement mode enables readings to be taken on coated materials with a thickness range up to 25.4mm (1”). In Echo-Echo ThruPaint™ mode, the coating thickness is ignored and the material thickness from the top surface of the material to the material density boundary is displayed.

Data Output

Compatible with ElcoMaster® software, individual readings can be downloaded via USB to PC or similar device for further analysis.

MTG6 Material Thickness Gauge

With a choice of calibration options, measurement modes – including high speed scan mode, display options and data-logging, the MTG6 is ideal for taking readings on a wide range of coated and uncoated materials and downloading data for further analysis and reporting.

As well as all the features of the MTG2 & MTG4, the MTG6 has additional calibration options; 2-Point, Velocity and known Thickness Value.

Measurement Mode

The MTG6 offers Velocity Mode (VM) which is ideal for determining the homogeneity of a material/alloy and the correct velocity of a material for calibration.

Using Scan Mode, readings can be taken at a rate of 16Hz (16 readings per second) over a large surface area.  When the transducer is lifted off the surface, the average, lowest and highest thickness value is displayed making scan mode ideal for checking a sample’s overall uniformity.

Display Mode

With a user definable display, users can choose to view readings, statistical information, bar graph - an analogue representation of the current reading together with the highest (Hi) , lowest (Lo); and average (x), reading or a run chart; a trend graph of the last 20 readings.

Data Logging & Data Output

The MTG6 has a single batch gauge memory and can store up to 1,500 readings. Compatible with both ElcoMaster® and ElcoMaster® Mobile Apps, readings can be downloaded via USB or Bluetooth® to PC, iOS or Android™ devices for further analysis and reporting.

MTG8 Material Thickness Gauge

The MTG8 is the top of the range gauge with all the features and functionality necessary for measuring material thickness and velocity on virtually any material and for a wide range of applications.

As well as all the features of the MTG2, MTG4 and MTG6, the MTG8 allows users to store into memory up to three calibrations. Once saved the user can select a calibration memory without the need to re-calibrate the gauge, ideal for users who are measuring a variety of materials or thicknesses. Using the gauge’s alpha-numeric function, calibration memories can be re-named to suit the calibration setting.

Statistics

The MTG8 has user definable upper and lower limits with audible and visual pass/fail warnings. Limits can be set for individual readings or for each batch. If a measurement is taken which falls outside set limits, the reading value and the limit icon turn red, the red LED flashes and the alarm beeps providing immediate indication of problem areas.

Display Mode

The MTG8 has Differential Mode; once a user defined nominal thickness value is set, the gauge displays the measured thickness together with the variation from the set nominal value thus indicating areas of the material which are thinner or thicker than expected.

The MTG8 offers B-Scan, a time based, cross sectional 2 dimensional graphical view of the material under test, ideal for relative depth analysis. The zoom of the B-Scan reading can either be set to automatic or can be defined by the user to focus on areas of interest.

Data Logging

The MTG8 can store 100,000 readings in up to 1,000 sequential or grid type batches. Using grid batching, readings are stored in a spreadsheet type format. The Obst feature, allows the user to record an obstruction within the grid.

CG70 Corrosion Thickness Gauges

UG20DL Underwater Thickness Gauge

The UG20DL is an underwater material and coating thickness gauge ideal for offshore inspections.

Waterproof to a depth of 300 metres (1,000 feet) the UG20DL offers many features and benefits of the CG100 series in an easy to use brightly lit gauge.

UG20DL Features Explained
 
Repeatability / Stability Indicator

Consisting of 6 vertical bars, when all the bars are fully illuminated and the last digit on the digital thickness value is stable, the gauge is reliably measuring the material thickness.

V-Path CorrectionV Path Correction

Dual element transducers consist of a probe with two crystals (one to transmit and one to receive the sound pulse). The crystals are separated by an acoustic barrier - generating a 'V-shaped' sound path as the sound travels from one element to the other.

This path is slightly longer than the direct path therefore V-path correction is used to calculate the correct thickness.
 

UG20DL Measurement Modes Explained
 
Pulse - Echo Mode (PE):

The normal display mode, measures the total thickness from the base of the transducer probe to the material density boundary (typically the back wall). Ideal for pit and flaw detection.

Echo - Echo Mode (EE):

Also known as the ThruPaint™ Mode, EE ignores the·coating thickness, displaying the material thickness from the top surface of the material to the material density boundary.

Pulse - Echo Coating Mode (PECT):

Displays both the material thickness (PE) and the coating thickness (CT) at the same time.
 
UG20DL Display Modes Explained
 
Material Thickness Digits Display:

The standard display on all models, this displays the numerical thickness value in either millimetres (MM)or inches (IN).

A-Scan Display; Full Wave (RF):

The A-Scan display shows the sine wave created by the reflected sound, or oscillation, from the material being measured. In RF mode the full wave form is displayed.

A-Scan Display; Rectified (+ or -):

Users can select to view either the positive or the negative cycle of the full waveform (RF). This rectified(RECT) display shows the amplitude of the echo versus the transit time.

ISO Viscosity Flow Cups

The Elcometer 2353 ISO Viscosity Flow Cups are very easy to use instruments made of anodized aluminium with a stainless steel orifice, for measuring the consistency of paints, varnishes and similar products.

The measured kinematic viscosity is generally expressed in seconds(s) flow time. If the Standards stipulate conversion methods the flow time can be converted into Centistokes (cSt) using the Elcometer ElcoCalc™ Mobile Apps.

Calibration certificates which offer traceability and assurance that each viscosity cup has been individually tested and comply to Standards are also available.

The cups can be supplied separately or with an adjustable stand which includes a precision level and an overflow glass draw plate. They can also be supplied with a flow jacket for temperature control (thermojacket).

BS Viscosity Flow Cups

The Elcometer 2354 BS Viscosity Flow Cups are very easy to use instruments made of anodized aluminium with a stainless steel orifice, for measuring the consistency of paints, varnishes and similar products.

Elcometer 2210 Zahn Viscosity Dip Cups

The Elcometer 2210 Zahn Dip Cup is a small U-shaped viscosity cup suspended from a looped wire.

This method is ideal for measuring the consistency of paints, varnishes and similar products.

Simply dip the cup into the product to be measured, lift it out and measure how long it takes for the contents to empty through the orifice.

There are five cups with five different orifice sizes available, ranging from 5 to 1840cSt.

Elcometer 2215 Lory Viscosity Cup

The Elcometer 2215 Lory Viscosity Cup is a conventional cylindrical cup with a needle fixed into the bottom for quick measurements on-site or during production.

The cup is first dipped into the product to be measured, then empties through the escape hole.  Unlike other Viscosity cups, the flow time is measured as soon as the point of the needle appears.

Elcometer 2310 Shell Viscosity Dip Cups

The Elcometer 2310 Shell Viscosity Dip Cups are stainless steel cups for quick measurements on-site or during production.

These viscosity dip cups are often used in the printing or ink industry. 

Simply dip the cup into the product to be measured, lift it out and measure how long it takes for the contents to empty through the orifice.

The measured kinematic viscosity is generally expressed in seconds (s) flow time, which can be converted into Centistokes (cSt).

Elcometer viscosity dip cups are available in six different orifice sizes for measurements between 2 and 1300cSt.

Elcometer Frikmar Viscosity Dip Cups

Thanks to its handle, the Elcometer Frikmar Viscosity Dip Cup is very easy to use to perform viscosity checks on site or during the manufacturing process.

It is ideal for measuring the consistency of paints, varnishes and other similar products.

Simply dip the cup into the product to be measured, lift it out and measure how long it takes for the contents to empty through the orifice.

The measured kinematic viscosity is generally expressed in seconds (s) flow time, which can be converted to Centistokes (cSt) if the Standard stipulates a conversion method.

Several ranges are available, according to the Standards being used; from 7 to 1100cSt.

Elcometer 2410 Viscosity Cup Standard Calibration Oils

In order to check the viscosity cup’s calibration or to certify it for ISO purposes, it is imperative that viscosity cup standard calibration oils are used.

Standard oils have a specific drain time, dependent upon the viscosity cup type (Ford, Shell, Zahn etc.) and the orifice or cup number used.

To check the viscosity cup, use the standard viscosity oils in place of the liquid and measure the drain time.

Specific calibration oils can only be used with specific flow and dip cups. Please use the table below to determine which calibration oil is required with each cup, or contact Elcometer. Viscosity oils are supplied in ½ litre (1 pint) bottles.

Elcometer Rotational Viscosity Standard Calibration Oils

Silicone standard oils are used to check viscosity measurements.

The values are given for 6 different temperatures between 20°C and 27°C (68°F and 80°F).

These oils are specifically manufactured for use with Elcometer 2300 Rotational Viscometers and values quoted are nominal at 25°C (77°F).

Elcometer 4695 Scrub Test Panels

In a typical scrub test, the coating is applied to the Leneta Scrub Test Panel at a specified film thickness, allowed to dry and then subjected to scrubbing with a straight-line scrub tester.

When used in accordance with ASTM D2486, Method A, a 10mil shim is inserted under the panel to accelerate failure and thereby reduce testing time. The scrub resistance is the number of scrub cycles required to remove the coating to a specified end point.

Alternatively, the loss in weight is determined after a specified number of scrub resistance cycles, with calculation of equivalent loss in film thickness.

These Scrub Test Panels are ideal for use with the Elcometer 1720 Washability & Abrasion Testers.

Elcometer 5750 Taber® Linear Abraser

Whatever your product, be it curved, round, big or small, the Linear Abraser from Taber® can test it all.

Using a free floating head to follow the contours of the sample, the Taber® 5750 is the ideal abrasion tester for flat or curved surfaces. It may also be used as a scratch tool, using the scratch kit accessory.

The Elcometer Hexagonal Wet Film Combs are designed for wet film thickness measurements and come in a range of thickness scales.

Elcometer 112AL Punched Wet Film Combs (Aluminium)

These punched aluminium combs offer the user a low cost method of measuring the wet film thickness.

The Elcometer 112AL, being punched from aluminium, is not as accurate as precision formed stainless steel wet film combs and has a shorter lifespan.

Supplied in a pack of 10 combs, each comb has Metric (25 - 3000μm) on one side and Imperial (1 - 118mils) on the other.

Elcometer 112 & 3236 Hexagonal Wet Film Combs (Stainless Steel)

These hexagonal precision formed stainless steel wet film combs are long lasting, reusable and supplied in a range of thicknesses measuring up to 3000μm (120mils).

These six sided combs vary in size, giving either 24 or 36 measurement steps, depending upon the comb, thus providing increased accuracy.

Elcometer 115 Wet Film Combs

These reusable precision stainless steel wet film combs are made to be long lasting and are supplied with either Metric or Imperial film thickness measurements.

Four separate wet film thickness ranges are available up to a maximum of 1270µm / 50mils and are manufactured to an accuracy of 5% or 2.5µm (0.01mil), whichever is the greater.

Each wet film comb has 10 measurement steps (teeth).

Elcometer 3238 Long Edge Wet Film Combs

These stainless steel wet film combs are wire eroded to provide an accuracy of ±2.5µm (0.01mil) and are supplied with either Metric or Imperial wet film thickness measurements.

Each wet film comb has 24 measurement stages (teeth) providing a more accurate wet film thickness value.

Elcometer 154 Plastic Wet Film Combs

The Elcometer 154 Wet Film Combs are made from ABS plastic and are designed to be used once and kept as a record of wet film thickness measurement for quality assurance or customer requirements.

Metric and Imperial values are on the same wet film comb, 50 to 800µm on one side, 2 to 32mils on the other.

Supplied in a pack containing 500 wet film combs. Each comb has 16 measurement steps.

Elcometer 3230 Wet Film Wheels

The Elcometer 3230 Wet Film Wheel is a high precision, accurate and easy to use instrument which consists of a set of three wheels.

The central wheel is of a smaller diameter and is eccentric relative to the two outer wheels.

By rolling the gauge through a wet coating, the centre wheel eventually touches the film. This point on the scale indicates the thickness.

A convenient mounting handle for the wheel is available in two lengths; 15cm (6”) & 50cm (19”); please order separately.

When the volume to solids ratio of the coating is known (generally found on the product data sheet supplied by the manufacturer), the wet film thickness can be used to predict the dry film thickness.

Several measurement ranges between 0 to 25µm and 0 to1000µm (0 to 1mil and 0 to 40mils) are available.

Elcometer 3230 Coil Coating Wet Film Wheels

This instrument is similar to the Elcometer 3230 Wet Film Wheel, but is designed for use in the coil coating process.

The outer wheels are knurled to allow measurements to be taken on slippery coatings or on fast moving substrates.

By rolling the gauge through a wet coating, the centre wheel eventually touches the film. This point on the scale indicates the thickness.

When the volume to solids ratio of the coating is known (generally found on the product data sheet supplied by the manufacturer), the wet film thickness can be used to predict the dry film thickness.

Elcometer 3233 Pfund Thickness Gauge

The Elcometer 3233 Pfund Thickness Gauge is used to measure film thickness of wet translucent products such as varnishes, paints and oils.

Available in aluminium or stainless steel this instrument consists of two concentric cylinders, one sliding inside the other. A spherical glass lens is fitted to the end of the central cylinder and when pressed into the wet film, leaves a circular trace.

The diameter of the mark on the lens is measured and, using the supplied conversion table, the thickness of the coating can be easily assessed.

Elcometer 155 Uncured Powder Film Comb

Available in four scale ranges, the Elcometer 155 Uncured Powder Film Comb is designed to measure uncured powder coating film thickness.

This enables the application system to be set up and fine tuned prior to the curing process. In turn, this will reduce the amount of scrap and over-spray.

Place the comb into the powder and slide the comb along the surface. The measurement points (or teeth) are pointed and allow the powder to flow around them.
The thickness of the powder lies between the highest value where a drag mark is visible and the lowest value where a drag mark has not been produced.

Note: The thickness of a coating prior to cure is not the same value after curing but there is a correlation. The powder comb is suitable as a guide only.
